Flintshire U3A

Friendship and Fun through Lifelong Learning

Open Meetings, the AGM and other FU3A events will now take place in Connah’s Quay Civic Hall. The facilities mean that we have to serve your beverages in paper cups. If you wish to bring your own reusable cup/mug from home please do so. This will help to reduce the impact on the environment.

** New group - Writers Group 2

“Like Writers Group 1, we are a new small group who like to write flash fiction/short stories/novels in classic and modern styles; we all enjoy the creative process and have fun on the way. This new group also has a passion to see their work published (that is the dream!) so with this in mind we will:

- operate a critique exercise for those who want it

- examine structure of work and improvements to style etc.

- write pieces of 500 - 1,500 words on random topics

- tips and advice on how to enter writing competitions

So if you want to channel your creative writing into being published and feel that you’d benefit from a more in- depth Writing Group, please contact Sue Wilcox, Coordinator on

01244 819334 for further details.

‘Music Live’

We’re about discovering and developing musical skills – learning, playing and performing.

We play folk music, blues, pop - and ethnic drumming – and aspire to writing our own material.

Anyone’s welcome, regardless of expertise. We support learning on guitar, ukulele and drumming.

Thanks to funding from the Coop, we have some African, Latin and Celtic percussion.

We’re REALLY keen to meet more people who would like to learn drumming…AND ……ukulele.

Please come along

Our meetings are usually from 12 – 4 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month at Mold Methodist Church.
Please check if you’re planning your first visit.

Sessions cost £1/hour.

Please contact John on john.house6@hotmail.co.uk

'Music Live’ latest gig photos are in the Gallery

Music Live played at Mold Methodist Church on Saturday, August 10th 2019.

We took part in an event which raised over £400 to help support agriculture in Zimbabwe.

The singers are Arthur Kemp, Liz Parry and Jenny Mulholland.

Everyone enjoyed it and the food was brilliant - pork and apple pie with new potatoes and peas followed by a chocolate fudge cheesecake.

New group - Boules / Petanque

We feel sure that many FU3A members will have played or watched boules whilst on holiday and may be interested in joining us in this new group.

The rules are fairly easy and a beginners guide is available on this link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wnL4OUBGxk.

The game is not too strenuous and we play for fun not competition although an element of competitive play does emerge.
Pétanque is perfect as a low impact exercise involving throwing, bending and walking. However it also requires team play, concentration, tactics and strategy. Being a relatively inexpensive activity the social side of the sport is another of its great benefits. As long as you can hold and
throw a boule you can play pétanque.

We have not been able to find a suitable public/private location in Flintshire so have decided to build our own piste/court/pitch to which we are cordially inviting FU3A members to come and play (or watch).

We live between Holywell and Prestatyn

Boules will be available for use but as we only have one piste, this will potentially be a small group, with numbers limited to 4-5 players per session.

We propose playing weekly on a Tuesday 10am-12pm and/or 2pm-4pm if the response suggests two sessions will be required.

Play will be weather permitting and we will organise a rota system as necessary.

Our initial meeting will be held 10am on Thursday August 15th.

Please contact Mike & Gail on 01745571152 or 07885582424 for further information.

If you are interest but cannot attend the meeting please contact Mike or Gail above.

Film Group

After the summer break,  Film Group is restarting next Tuesday 17th  September, with the screening of the Oscar winning film, Green Book.
