Friendship and Fun through Lifelong Learning

Open Meetings, the AGM and other FU3A events will now take place in Connah’s Quay Civic Hall. The facilities mean that we have to serve your beverages in paper cups. If you wish to bring your own reusable cup/mug from home please do so. This will help to reduce the impact on the environment.

Proposed New Groups starting September 2018

Enhance your Photos (digital image manipulation)
The best way to turn good snaps into a great photograph is to fine-tune your image. Image manipulation is to digital photographers what the darkroom was to film photographers.

An exciting new group is set to start in September, bringing members up to speed with image enhancement. From beginners to intermediates there will be something for everyone.

Fly Fishing and Fly Tying
It is proposed to hold a monthly group covering fly tying (both practical and history of patterns) , to review books, equipment, local waters and local clubs.  It is also envisaged that group visits to local fisheries will be arranged. All levels of expertise welcome.

If you are interested please contact Mike on 07874638143 or by email to 25mike49@gmail.com

Maths/Numeracy Group
The group will be for a small number of Flintshire U3A members who might want to revise or further their Mathematics/Numeracy skills. The method of doing this will depend upon the group members and their confidence in the subject but I would envisage starting off by revising some fundamental numerical skills and introducing puzzles.

One avenue could then be for individual members to follow the new school GCSE syllabus or a course in numeracy, with the possibility of progression to Higher Mathematics at some stage.

The group will also consider other aspect of Mathematics such as:

*History and Culture of the subject

*Possible uses in everyday life / work

*Problem solving / puzzles

*Its applications in Science, Technology and other subjects

If you are interested in joining this group please contact Derek at derwjones@tiscali.co.uk

Deeside Social Event, Friday 21st September

We are planning a day of activities between Flint and Talacre on Deeside on Friday 21st September. This will include walks, but also sketching, photography, flora and fauna, and bird watching tasters. There will be music and song and poetry reading along the way and we are hoping to have tours of places like Flint Castle, Bagillt Community Garden and the Greenfield Valley.

You are invited to join us for as much of the day as you want and a full programme should be available by early August. We hope that new members will find something of interest and we are happy for people to invite others along who may be interested in joining the U3A. We would also appreciate help from people who may be able to help on the day in any way.

The next planning meeting for the Deeside Social is on Thursday 12th July 2018 at Buckley Cross Community Centre, CH7 2JL (3-7 Padeswood Street North, opposite Methodist Church), between 10:00 to 12:00. We would be delighted to see anyone interested in taking part in the planning of this event.
